Each band will have the opportunity to perform and be judged twice, once in the afternoon during the Festival for a rating only, and second during the evening Competition. The Festival will feature a judge’s debrief with the entire band and staff immediately following each band’s performance. Judges for the Festival will also be encouraged to comment outside their captions and give a wide range of feedback. The competition portion of the show will divide each band into four classes based on the number of wind players. Directors may opt to perform at the Festival, Competition or both.

Class will be determined by the number of wind players in the band but the host reserves the right to modify these classifications if necessary for competitive balance.  Classifications are as follows:

Silver Division:

Class A

less than 30

Class AA

31 – 50

Gold Division:

Class AAA

51 – 74

Class AAAA

75 and above

Directors may elect to register one class level higher than their class based on the above table.
Bands may not register in a lower class than their original class.

The event will be scored using SCBDA Adjudication sheets and guidelines.

First, Second and Third place trophies will be presented to the top three bands in each class. Additionally, trophies will be awarded for overall Best Percussion and Best Auxiliary in each class. For both the Silver and Gold Divisions, the top scoring band, regardless of class, will be presented the Grand Champion Trophy for their division.

Bus parking and band warm-ups will take place on the same side of St. Andrews Rd. as the school and stadium. BANDS WILL NO LONGER CROSS THE ROAD TO GET TO AND FROM THE BUSES AND STADIUM. Bus parking will take place in the student parking lot, and warm-up areas will be behind the school. Bands will be scheduled in 15-minute performance slots. Warm-up times and locations will be provided.

Judges are selected from among the finest music educators in the United States. Judges will evaluate each band’s performance as to Music, Visual Execution, and Overall Effect. Additional judges will evaluate percussion and auxiliary teams.  Once the judging panel has been finalized a complete list will be posted on the show website.

We are planning to provide each band director with a DVD video of their performance(s).

Directors of registered bands will receive a complete packet including performance times, regulations, and maps, as well as information about the campus and surrounding area. Passes for staff members and chaperones can be picked up at band check-in on the day of the contest. An assortment of booths providing fast foods, drinks, and souvenirs will be available throughout the day and evening. Additional information and an application form can be found at www.irmoband.org/palmetto.htm.
